Children's Privacy Policy (COPPA)

Freigeist Ventures LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of children who use the Campfyre application and website (the "Service"). This Children's Privacy Policy supplements our general Privacy Policy and explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information from children under 13 years of age, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA").

1. About Campfyre and Children

Campfyre is designed as a family storytelling platform where parents, grandparents, and children can create stories together. We understand the importance of protecting children's privacy and have designed our Service with children's safety in mind.

  • Children under 13 may only use Campfyre with verified parental consent.
  • All child accounts are created and managed by a parent or guardian.
  • Children cannot create accounts independently.

2. Information We Collect from Children

With verified parental consent, we may collect the following information from or about children under 13:

Information Provided by Parents

  • Child's first name or nickname (for personalization)
  • Age or age range
  • Preferences for story personalization (favorite animals, colors, interests)

Information Collected During Use

  • Voice recordings made during story creation (with parental consent)
  • Story choices and interactions within the app
  • Device identifiers for app functionality (not used for tracking)

Information We Do NOT Collect from Children

  • Full legal names
  • Email addresses
  • Physical addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Social Security numbers
  • Photos (unless uploaded by a parent)
  • Geolocation data

3. Parental Consent

How We Obtain Consent

Before collecting any personal information from a child under 13, we:

  • Require the parent to create an adult account first
  • Provide direct notice to the parent about our data practices
  • Obtain verifiable parental consent through one of the following methods:
    • Credit card verification (small charge that is refunded)
    • Video conference call with our team
    • Government ID verification
    • Signed consent form returned by mail, fax, or email

What Parents Can Do

Parents have the right to:

  • Review the personal information we have collected from their child
  • Request that we delete their child's personal information
  • Refuse to allow further collection or use of their child's information
  • Modify their child's information at any time
  • Revoke consent at any time

4. How We Use Children's Information

We use children's information solely to:

  • Personalize stories with the child's name and preferences
  • Create voice-enabled story experiences
  • Save and display completed stories within the family's account
  • Improve the age-appropriateness of content suggestions

We do NOT use children's information for:

  • Behavioral advertising or targeted marketing
  • Creating marketing profiles
  • Selling to third parties
  • Any purpose unrelated to the Service

5. Information Sharing

We share children's information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • With Family Members: Stories containing a child's content may be shared with family members invited by the parent.
  • Service Providers: We use carefully selected service providers who are contractually required to protect children's information and use it only to provide services to us (e.g., cloud hosting, voice processing).
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or protect the safety of a child.

We never sell children's personal information.

6. Data Security

We implement strong security measures to protect children's information:

  • Encryption of all personal data in transit and at rest
  • Strict access controls limiting who can access children's data
  • Regular security audits and assessments
  • Employee training on children's privacy requirements
  • Prompt notification to parents in the event of a data breach

7. Data Retention

  • We retain children's information only for as long as necessary to provide the Service.
  • When a parent deletes their child's profile, we delete all associated personal information within 30 days.
  • If an account is inactive for 24 months, we will notify the parent and delete children's data unless the parent requests otherwise.

8. Third-Party Services

We use the following types of third-party services that may process children's data:

  • Cloud Hosting: To securely store stories and user data
  • Voice Processing: To transcribe voice recordings and generate character voices
  • Image Generation: To create story illustrations

All third-party service providers are contractually bound to comply with COPPA and our privacy requirements.

9. Safe Harbor

We are committed to self-regulatory guidelines and best practices for protecting children's privacy online. We regularly review our practices to ensure ongoing compliance with COPPA.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to how we collect, use, or share children's personal information, we will:

  • Update this policy and change the "Last updated" date
  • Notify parents directly via email
  • Obtain new parental consent if required by the changes
